Spot description
A gravel spit several hundred metres long shelters a smooth training area on its leeward side. The launch is directly by the water; west wind uses one side of the spit, east wind the opposite side. Farther out the water becomes choppy and offers room for smaller jumps. The spot suits manoeuvre practice and freeriding, but shoreline shape and changing wind angle require orientation on the water.
More spot information
West and east wind can strengthen considerably due to the local setting and daytime heating. West blows sideshore from the left; in east wind the sheltered side of the spit changes. The regional northwest to north flow is not a reliable alternative direction here. Local reports often describe around 15–20 kn in early afternoon even when the large-scale forecast is weaker.
Depending on wind angle, smooth flat water lies behind the gravel spit. Outside its lee, moderate chop and small jumping waves build. Gravel shore; clearly distinguish the sheltered area from the more exposed water.
Drive from Patras towards Drepano for about 30 minutes. Turn onto Akrotinou Street just before the small bridge and follow the track to the water. The launch is near the beach access.
Free parking in the shade of olive trees and showers at the spot. No windsurfing school or rental; bring your own equipment.
The spit limits escape and return routes. Stronger wind creates chop and current outside the sheltered lee. At weekends, many windsurfers and kitesurfers can crowd the narrow launch.
