More spot information
The northerly Meltemi is funnelled through the strait and can strengthen considerably. Local tourism information describes NE as suitable for flat water; NW/NE-dependent sideshore to offshore wind and currents make the spot demanding. W to SW frontal wind brings waves. Reliable typical knot ranges are not consistently documented for this spot, so the condition wind-strength fields remain empty.
Sandy beach; parts of the strait between Pounta and Elafonisos have shallow, clear water, flat to choppy in north wind. W and SW winds bring waves. Watch for currents and changing conditions in the strait.
Mainland access at Pounta/Viglafia near the Elafonisos ferry. The southern beach section adjoins the underwater archaeological site of Pavlopetri; avoid its delineated areas.
Monemvasia's municipal tourism website lists no windsurfing/kitesurfing schools or rentals in the area. Bring your own equipment and plan suitable safety arrangements; check current local services.
Strong currents and variable, sometimes offshore northerly winds. Keep clear of ferry traffic near the landing. The municipal tourism website states that windsurfing and kitesurfing south of Pavlopetri are dangerous and prohibited; verify current boundaries and rules locally.
