Spot description
Behind the dune the water stays mostly flat. Mistral from west-northwest to northwest reaches the area sideshore and can strengthen locally. Southeast can be gustier and partly offshore. This changes the return to the launch even when the water remains smooth.
More spot information
Northwest Maestrale is amplified in the bay; at the northern Il Fortino launch it arrives sideshore to slightly side-onshore. Ponente from west and Scirocco from southeast are also rideable, though southeast can be gustier and partly offshore. Wind strength decreases southwards from Il Fortino.
Behind the headland the water is usually smooth and shallow; farther out stronger wind builds short chop. The bottom in the north is muddy in places, with algae and seagrass.
The pin marks the northern Il Fortino launch near the local windsurfing and kitesurfing school. The beach section is small; designated launch corridors apply in summer. Check access and current corridor rules on local signs.
At Il Fortino there is a water sports school with support and rescue assistance. Other parts of the bay lack comparable rescue coverage.
The Maestrale can exceed the forecast. Launch space at Il Fortino is small; the northern bottom is partly muddy. Southeast can be gusty and offshore. Observe seasonal launch corridors and protected areas.
