Spot description
Skala Kallonis lies in the shallow Gulf of Kalloni. The long, sheltered stretch of water usually remains calmer than the exposed west coast of Lesvos; strengthening wind creates short chop. The sandy launch slopes gently. There is a mole and boats near the village, and shells may lie on the bottom.
More spot information
The import source lists several directions and both thermal and frontal wind; in summer, thermal winds are more often northerly, while winter winds are southerly. The wind is usually lighter than on the west coast. Imported wind ranges are 11–16 and 17–21 kn; a more recent spot source gives modelled values of 12–18 kn for warm winds.
Flat water to chop and small waves; large open-sea waves rarely develop in the enclosed bay. Sandy, shallow bottom.
Beach in the village of Skala Kallonis. Keep access and launch space clear of swimming activity and boats.
Mole and shells on the bottom; boats in places. A shallow bay, but the wind can increase during the day.
