Spot description
Schinias is a long sandy beach in Marathon Bay. Wind effects vary with the section and direction: southerlies can bring waves, while the summer Meltemi can be offshore. Many summer swimmers leave little room for kitesurfing. Observe protected areas within the national park.
More spot information
Favourable directions are E, ESE, N, NE, S, SW and SE. E to NE provides particularly reliable conditions; southerlies bring thermal effects and arrive onshore. The Meltemi can be offshore in summer.
Usually choppy in summer. SW tends to bring smaller waves; S and SE can build clean to powerful waves. Swimming activity increases greatly in high season.
The windsurfing launch is on the southern section of Schinias beach, by the Karavi and Moraitis surf centres. Both lie south of the Olympic rowing centre and offer lessons, equipment and beach access. Agree the exact launch zone with the clubs on site.
Karavi and Moraitis offer windsurfing lessons and equipment rental; Karavi has a beach bar and food service. Parking and beach facilities can be very busy in high season.
The beach is long; wind direction and water conditions vary along the coast. Southeast brings onshore conditions and shorebreak and is suitable only for advanced windsurfers. Keep swimming zones and busy beach sections clear.
