Spot description
Mati comprises two small beaches on Attica's east coast. Northeast to east can arrive onshore and build waves farther out. The southern beach has a reef, the northern a harbour wall. The narrow launch is heavily occupied in summer and unsuitable for beginners.
More spot information
Best directions are north-northeast, northeast and east. The source also lists north, NNE, NE, east, southeast, south-southeast and south as main directions. Northeast and east are explicitly described as particularly good; south can also work. The range is about 11–33 kn (4–7 Bft.).
Water near the coast is choppy, with mixed irregular waves farther out that improve in stronger wind. The source gives no explicit direction-to-water-type assignment.
The spot is south of Nea Makri in front of Mati, reached via Marathonos Avenue.
Both beaches have little launch space. Reefs lie in the southern part of the southern beach, and a harbour wall is at the northern beach's southern end. The source warns of weekend bathers and recommends sufficient riding skill to return.
