Spot description
The beach near Sagres shelves gently at low tide. Summer Nortada blows offshore and can be gusty near shore. Water then often stays smooth. Easterly or southwesterly winter patterns can bring more waves and currents into the bay.
More spot information
Summer Nortada from north blows offshore and can be gusty right at shore; farther out it becomes steadier. In winter Levante from northeast to southeast or southwest winds bring more waves and currents.
Very smooth near shore in north wind; small chop forms farther out. Easterly and southwesterly winter patterns can create chaotic waves and stronger currents.
Park at Praia de Martinhal east of Sagres. The long sandy beach offers several launches; Wind4All surf centre and the Beach Resort lie in the eastern beach section.
North wind is offshore and gusty at shore. The small standing-depth area extends only close to shore; the surf school has a motorboat ready for emergencies. Winter Levante increases waves and currents; the beach is crowded in summer.
