Spot description
Orther Reede offers an extensive knee- to waist-deep standing area here. Offshore islands and headlands block larger waves; even strong wind usually leaves only light chop. The popular launch is at parking by the shallow beach. West wind arrives onshore there. Seagrass can accumulate in summer.
More spot information
West-northwest to south-southwest arrives largely unobstructed and steady. Westerly directions are particularly suitable; in west winds the shallow beach is onshore.
Large standing-depth flat-water area with at most light chop; offshore islands and headlands block larger waves.
The “parking by the shallow beach” launch is directly by the water. Alternatively launch at the sailing harbour, which also has parking.
Parking, places to eat and a surf shop in town; a watersports school at the school residential centre is currently closed.
Walk far out with longer fins in shallow water. Seagrass can occur in summer; avoid submerged stones and the harbour channel. Keep protected areas and island access routes clear.
