Spot description
The north-facing bay of Korfos funnels the Meltemi. In northerly to northeasterly winds, the water near the long sandy beach usually stays flat and shallow enough to stand, making manoeuvres and controlled practice easier. Strong north-northwesterly wind brings more chop and small shorebreak.
More spot information
Northerly to northeasterly wind is favourable for flat water and freeriding. The concave, north-facing bay can strengthen the Meltemi. Strong north-northwesterly wind brings more chop and small waves; northwesterly wind is not a confirmed main setup for this launch.
Long sandy beach with standing-depth water and mostly flat conditions in N to NE winds. Strong NNW can produce short chop and small shorebreak; there are rocks at the ends of the bay.
The windsurfing launch is on the sandy beach in Korfos Bay, a few minutes from the airport and around 2,5 kilometres from Mykonos Town. Use the marked station area on the beach.
The Duotone Pro Center on the beach offers windsurfing, lessons and equipment. Ornos, with more shops and restaurants, is a short walk away.
The Meltemi can be strong in the north-facing bay. NNW increases chop and shorebreak. Rocks at both ends, a narrow launch area and heavy kitesurfing traffic require clear launch routes and sufficient distance.
