Spot description
Kommos' extensive beach has a separate windsurfing launch near the archaeological excavation. Northerly Meltemi blows sideshore, usually weaker here than farther north. A short standing-depth area lies off the exposed sandy beach; farther out moderate chop and waves around 1–1.5 m develop. The launch suits freeriders confident in surf.
More spot information
Northerly Meltemi blows sideshore. Its strength decreases from Kokkinos Pyrgos via Kalamaki to Kommos. No fixed knot range is documented for the southern beach section; check local wind development and the return before launching.
Exposed sandy beach with about 20 m of standing-depth area, followed by moderate chop and waves around 1–1.5 m. No flat-water conditions; stronger-wind surf requires reliable waterstarts.
Drive to the southern beach section at Kommos; access is near the archaeological excavations. Parking is at beach access. Do not enter marked protected or excavation areas.
Parking at beach access. Tavernas and further supplies are in nearby Kalamaki and Pitsidia.
Kommos is a sensitive archaeological area and seasonal sea turtle nesting site. Respect protection markings and closed sections; do not enter nests or dunes. Watch for exposed surf, swimmers and strong wind.
