Spot description
More spot information
The trade season runs roughly from May to October, with the most reliable wind during the austral winter. Typical reports are 15–25 kt from E, ESE and SE. Check the direction and tide with the local operator before launching.
Warm, shallow lagoon with a sandy beach and mostly flat water. Chop develops farther out in stronger wind; waves break over the reef beyond the lagoon.
Google Maps places the launch at Zephyr Kiteboarding Beach on Airforce Road by the south West Island shore. The pin is directly on the sand beside the water. It is listed as a private kite beach; arrange access and launching with the operator. The local school provides transport to the beach, lessons and supervision.
Zephyr Kiteboarding offers seasonal lessons, coaching, transport to Kite Beach and rescue support as part of its services. Confirm equipment hire and beach access with the operator in advance.
Coral reef and very shallow passages at low tide; local lessons require at least 0.6 m of tide. Strong surf and reef waves can occur beyond the lagoon. Keep clear of the airport and runway, and follow local signs and marine protection zones.
