Spot description
The spot is on the sandy beaches on either side of the river mouth in Souda Bay. W to WNW is sideshore from the left and can gain thermal reinforcement. Near shore the water varies from flat to lightly choppy; farther out, waves up to about one metre are possible depending on wind.
More spot information
W to WNW is the documented direction. In summer a westerly flow can strengthen thermally to 4–6 Bft, on good days to 5–7 Bft. Kalami west of Kalyves often receives wind earlier; around midday it turns towards Kalyves.
Sandy beach with about 20 m of standing-depth water. Flat water to light chop near shore; waves up to about 1 m farther out.
Use public beach access in Kalyves; parking and showers are at the sandy beach. The article coordinate is about 290 m from the existing pin on the same beach section; the pin was therefore not moved without access evidence.
Parking, showers and accommodation at the sandy beach; bars and tavernas near the beach and in central Kalyves.
Harbour and breakwaters at the eastern beach section. Observe summer bathing zones; stronger wind increases waves outside the standing-depth area.
