Spot description
Ftelia is on Mykonos' open north coast and catches the Meltemi directly. The western edge of the bay offers a more sheltered sandy launch; farther out, strong north wind brings powerful waves. A large rock protrudes from the water in the middle.
More spot information
North wind blows onshore into the bay. In a moderate Meltemi, waves remain relatively manageable; above about 20 knots wave height increases considerably. An easterly or westerly component changes the jumping tack.
Sandy launch at the western end of the bay and exposed surf farther out. Depending on wind and swell, conditions range from moderate shorebreak to high breaking waves. A large rock is in the middle of the bay.
With your own equipment, head for the western beach section in front of Ftelia Beach Club. The launch there is sandy and more sheltered than the middle of the bay. Access is via the road to Ano Mera; parking is by the beach.
A restaurant and seasonal beach club are on the beach; parking is along the access route. Further amenities are in Ano Mera.
The Meltemi blows onshore and can generate powerful surf. Give the large rock in the middle of the bay a wide berth; in strong swell use the sandy western end to enter and exit.
