Spot description
The large main beach Pachia Ammos and the smaller Limeniskos bay by the harbour are separate launches. Limeniskos is sheltered for windsurfing and kitesurfing; the exposed main beach reacts more strongly to waves and swimming activity. Southerly weather patterns can bring waves. Do not treat the sections as one uniform riding area.
More spot information
At the exposed main beach, northerly Meltemi conditions through northeast work, blowing cross-offshore to sideshore. Strong south to southwest conditions can build large waves in winter. The sheltered flat-water option at Limeniskos harbour is a separate launch farther south.
In northerly summer wind the water stays relatively flat to choppy. In winter strong south to southwest wind brings surf and high waves. The beach is sandy, with isolated rocky areas in the water.
About 59 km west of Chania and 17 km west of Kissamos; access via the road to Falasarna.
Strong south to southwest wind creates demanding surf; the spot is then suitable only for confident wave riders. The long exposed beach can be very busy in summer. Keep the swimming area clear.
