Spot description
Below Cape Sebastian viewpoints is an exposed wave spot. Northwest creates smaller wind waves than at neighbouring Pistol River; southwest to west swell instead produces clean waves along the cape. The best wind windows are often morning or evening.
More spot information
Northwest has to turn more onshore at the cape than at Pistol River and usually builds smaller wind waves. Afternoon wind often becomes gusty. Southwest to west mainly describes the favourable swell angle here, not a confirmed wind direction.
Exposed rocky coast with clean-running waves in suitable swell. Large rocks lie downwind; entry and exit require experience.
Park at Cape Sebastian State Scenic Corridor's southern car park. The beach is below the viewpoint; access follows a steep coastal path. The pin marks the public trailhead, not the beach below.
Parking and hiking paths are at the viewpoint. Toilets and further supplies are limited; hotels, campsites and shops are in Gold Beach.
Gusty wind, very cold water, steep access and large downwind rocks make the spot demanding. Launch only in wave conditions you can handle reliably.
